Continuing to organize and clear space in my studio this week. Making room for some crisp new energy and letting things that no longer serve go. Not easy but it is time. The photo is of one of my bees hiding deep in the flower in my garden.
A bee in my pollinator garden encourages me in the quest to help nature flourish in my yard and in the world. I hope we will stop and get to know the tiny things we share the world with for our own enrichment and for the benefit of life on our planet.
This is a painting created to accompany a painting of a rooster. This is a hen on the move.
This is a portrait of my father that is returning home after being rescued from a fire. It is fully restored and It captures the spirit of the man. So very glad for it to be home again.
Clearing the studio is always something that I dread because it means figuring out what to keep and what to let go of to create space for the new. I often have to find the thread before beginning new work and clearing is just a necessary part of continuing to create. The image is a photo I took this week in my garden. I just love seeing life thrive around me.
Creating a likeness and capturing the feeling of a person during life drawing sessions is one of my great endeavors. This is a 20 minute pose from last night’s session. Watercolor and water soluble graphite.
The commission is complete and delivered. This was A very challenging and satisfying experience and involved a new way of working. It was well received and I am a happy lady.
This week’s art focus has been drawing from the model. Always a favorite activity that keeps my hand in. Nothing quite like capturing the likeness of another human via quick poses. The image is of a mural I created for the town that is featured in the pocket park on Main St. also notice the full moon last night through the open structure.
The commission is finished and I will share once it has been delivered. Really enjoyed this process and the challenge and have discovered some new and advantageous ways of working. Also totally intoxicated with the nature all around me this spring and just can’t get enough flowers!
I am in the process of finishing a large painting and am setting it out of reach so I can avoid overworking it. It is a joy to see a piece come together. Doing some color adjusting and refining today but now letting it rest. Riding horses for fun and future inspiration.
I will be participating in this event this week. This is an opportunity to see my work in person. Hope you can make it.
Working on a commission that is really a welcome opportunity to stretch into a more conscious way of creating imagery. Striking a balance between drawing and painting with this one and using a more fluid and yet structured approach. So far so good!!
This is an oil on canvas. I love to create with outdoor environments. This fantasy vase is overflowing with blossoms.
This painting is 20 by 16, acrylic on canvas. It was created on a trip to the mountains with friends. The quaint mountain cabin painted in bright colors created the perfect background for my quilting friend.
This painting was inspired by a trip to an English garden. I really love flowers and plants of all kinds and resonated with the sweeping mounds of color the Dutch designer used in creating such a lush landscape. Floral Annunciation , acrylic on canvas, 16 by 20
Hanging the Stars, acrylic on canvas. My love of horses and fantasy are two reasons I paint.
This painting is a small one with a sweet vibe. Blue Pony with Flowers.
This painting was created as a transformation of an earlier work of a similar composition but with a much edgier feeling. You might say one from the human perspective and the other from a higher view.
Heaven’s Rescue is the title of this piece. It is a 20 x 16 acrylic on canvas.
I have a show at the local hospital that hopefully is lifting the spirits of folks in need. This is one of the paintings included in the show.
This week has been a week of reflecting and honoring some quiet time to replenish. The photo was taken during my down time.
Walking into the studio and picking up my paintbrush lets me leave this world behind for a while and create one that is more to my liking.
Finding Magic in the Dark is the title of this new piece. It has been evolving. It is a slightly different way of working. I like the possibilities.
A glimmer of hope is always appreciated. Light in the midst of darkness. I’ll take some of that please!
In the summer I like to grow fruit. I love it and the birds love it. That is where my studio got its name. Catbirds like to eat berries and so do I.
Painting allows creative energy to flow and that allows me to stay in harmony with myself and the universe. A win, win situation. A friend once told me she thougth I would explode if I didn't paint and I agree! Here's to lots more moments of flow!
